Beginner Bikers Structure: AYF’s Beginner Biking Camp is for kids age 4 and up who are just learning to ride (without training wheels), and for kids who already know how to ride but need help with basic skills like controlled starting and stopping, turning, maneuvering, changing speeds, and gearing. Kids will learn biking laws, the “rules of the road,” how to ride safely with a group, and AYF’s Biking Communication System when “riding as a team.”
Cycle the City Structure: Cycle the City Camp will start with a review of all bicycle safety procedures as well as ways for bikers to maintain their bikes. From Tarrytown, we will head on our bikes down the Johnson Creek Trail and other bike lanes to popular destinations around Austin. We will visit Zilker Park, Barton Springs, Pease Park, Austin Nature Center, and other great destinations like these. Campers will need their own bike (all-terrain, hybrid, mountain bike) helmet, and a water bottle cage on bike (not required). Bikers should be comfortable biking 1.5 to 2 miles before a rest stop.
