As teachers, we love to teach, and Austin Youth Fitness is all about teaching our youth to love being fit! With proper training, lots of fun, and positive role models, AYF is molding life long runners and bikers. Meet our coaches below!
Owners Larry & Emily Chauvin
Larry Chauvin, founder of Austin Youth Fitness, is starting his 10th year of teaching at Casis, and his third year as physical education teacher. In 2005, Larry started running to lose weight and get in shape. He lost 30 pounds and gained a great love for running. Larry started entering many 5Ks and 10Ks in Austin. This new love for running led him to complete his first marathon at Disney World in 2008. Now Larry has 9 marathons under his belt, and he's training for more! "I want to bring my knowledge of fitness and teaching to young runners while also having fun," Larry says.
Emily Chauvin has her Masters in Exercise Physiology from UT and loves passing along her passion for fitness with adults and children. Emily rode in the M.S. 150 on two different occasions, and ran her 1st marathon in 2008. She is now a tax accountant at Weaver and continues to spread her love of fitness to her co-workers, clients, and anyone who will listen.
Emily and Larry first met in April 2011 to discuss having Emily come on board as a biking camp coach. This job turned into a friendship, which turned into an engagement and finally a marriage. They are now happy residents of South Austin raising their beautiful daughter Tacy and rescue dog Penny.
Coach Amy Stephens
Amy Stephens currently teaches kindergarten at Brentwood Elementary. Aside from running cross country in college, Amy has run in 7 marathons and is currently training for a 50 mile run! Amy is a great addition to Young Guns Running Group. It's one thing to be good at something, it's another to be able to teach others to do what you love. Amy brings both a love of the sport, as well as a love of teaching others.
Coach Courtney Ewing
Courtney Ewing has been teaching 2nd grade at Casis since 2007. Aside from teaching, Courtney has a passion for running, fitness, and nutrition. In addition to many 5Ks, Courtney has raced in 2 half marathons and is currently training for a 3rd. One of Courtney's all time favorite events is the Run to the Sun, which she has run with Casis Young Guns the past 2 years. Courtney loves what she does, and brings her passion, patience, and perfection to Young Guns and all of our runners. Whether you see Courtney walking the halls, running the trail, or at a UT football game, say hello and enjoy her positive energy!
Coaches Brandon & Kim Batiansila
Brandon Batiansila is in his 17th year of teaching, 15 of those years being at Casis Elementary. Brandon is always looking to be a more efficient runner and loves teaching others about what he learns. Brandon's first marathon was the Marathon 2 Marathon in 2011, and he's also run in the 3M Half Marathon, the 10/20, and the Run to the Sun Relay the past 2 years. Aside from running, Brandon loves hiking, camping, trail runs, and his wonderful family!
Kim Batiansila is starting her 18th year as a school based speech pathologist, and her 4th year being at Casis. Kim has participated in the 3M Half Marathon, the 10/20 Run, the Run to the Sun, and a Rogue Trail run this summer with Brandon and her son Jack. Kim loves the Run to the Sun Relay, because she has a personal connection with the Benson family, as well as it makes her personal connection with her training team rich and meaningful. Brandon and Kim are a great team and are excellent coaches for Young Guns!
Many former participants, like Hayley, Paul, and Lucas, love to share their love and knowledge of running to younger participants. Junior coaches also act as role models for participants and work hard to ensure every running session runs smoothly. It's great to have these middle school students share their time and effort with Austin Youth Fitness Running & Biking Groups. Junior coaches get to attend camps at a discounted price.
