Class Descriptions: Rise & Shine - Fitness Fusion - Led by Alli Phillips, M.Ed. This class emphasizes isolated strengthening and toning, and the two workouts compliment each other. Monday's workout fuses upper-body-strengthening and cardio-x-training, and Wednesday's class targets the legs with added cardio-conditioning as well.
Monday's class strengthens and tones abs, back, shoulders, chest, and arms, by fusing traditional body-weight exercises (push-ups, dips, pull-ups) with yoga flow sequences and aerobic "recovery" segments.
Wednesday's workout compliments Monday's class by targeting the lower body, hips, thighs, and glutes, and again there is a fusion of old-school exercises (squats, lunges, and step-ups) with yoga flow sequences and cardio recovery segments to add variety, keep the heart pumping, and burn lots of calories.
5K Group - Led by Larry Chauvin & Emily Cunningham, M.Ed. This all level running group will prepare you for any fall 5K you'd like to run! We will work on technique, running drills, distance runs, and core strength training. Even if you would rather walk the 5K, you can join us and you will get a great workout with some great friends!
Quality Running - Led by Alli Phillips, M.Ed. This is a mixed-level running class emphasizes form, body-alignment, and technique. Speed-building drills and power work are also included for individuals for whom it is appropriate. The class ends with a "functional" core strengthening using yoga and Pilates-based movements as well as traditional ab work.
Exercise Playdate - Led by Alli Phillips, M.Ed. This challenging and fun cross-discipline workout is the cornerstone to the Backyard Fitness programming. The class is designed to accommodate moms bringing with them their babies, toddlers, and pre-school-age children. Fundamental exercises, using primarily the body's own weight as resistance, are combined to develop full-body strength and endurance. Yoga-based sequences are also incorporated into this workout, mixed in throughout the class, to develop flexibility, strengthen the core and postural muscles, as well as improve balance.
